Marketing Offline Can Substantially Increase Your Online Business

By Jill Hart

The Internet can be a scary place for those looking for a home-based business opportunity. The fear of not connecting personally with others is one concern and many people have been “taken” by online scams in their search for a legitimate business and are fearful to take any more risks. One way to overcome fears such as these is to market your online business locally. By simply offering the person a contact that they can speak to and possibly even meet face to face you will making the statement that your business is legitimate and trustworthy.

It is effective to market your online business locally primarily because potential customers and business recruits prefer to have the option of speaking with the business owner face to face. By attracting customers locally, you can maximize the opportunities to meet with them. You will no longer be that “someone they found online,” but someone that they will be able to relate to and feel confident doing business with.

But how do you market locally? Here are some excellent tips:

Besides the common local advertising routes, such as Newspaper Ads, Yellow Pages, Etc., another effective (and inexpensive) way to advertise locally is to post business related flyers around your community. Many grocery stores, libraries, bookstores, and office supply stores offer bulletin boards for this purpose. Make yours stand out and be recognized, yet professional enough to warrant someone trusting you with their business. Also, if possibly have a tear-off section on your flyer so they can take your number and leave your flyer.

Look for events geared toward work-at-home businesses. There are organizations, such as the National Work at Home Mom Association, that hold events across the nation to help promote the work-at-home business owner. At events such as these, you can purchase a booth and make hundreds of local contacts, as well as sales, all in one day.

Reach out to your community. Join your local Chamber of Commerce, get involved in community events and become known to those around you. Pass out flyers and hand out business cards to everyone you meet. Door Flyers also work well for marketing pick one neighborhood a week and go door to door. Be consistent with your marketing with door flyers, too. If a potential customer sees your ad repeatedly, they will feel more inclined to use your services in the future. Magnets can be great promotional items as well. You can have magnets printed with your business information and hand them out to people that you speak to about your products. Potential clients can keep these on their refrigerator or filing cabinet. You can also leave flyers, magnets or even catalogs around town in places like doctor’s offices, hair salons, etc.

Volunteer in your community for marketing success. Diana Ennen of Virtual Word Publishing, Inc. suggests, “Volunteer at school events such as PTA meetings or community functions. When your child’s school needs a flyer, volunteer to do it and attach your card to it. Look to see where you can also inexpensively advertise. Often ads in the kid’s yearbook or community events newsletter will get your more exposure than the expensive ads in the daily newspapers.”

Direct mail is another great tool for gaining local clients. Get the Yellow Pages out and write a professional letter or send your brochures or postcards to those that would be interested in your products or services. Send a mailing to local businesses that my be interested in offering your products to their customers. For example, if you sell home décor products, send a professional letter to real estate agents in your local area. In the letter, describe how your products would be valuable for them to use as thank you gifts when they sell a home.

It’s important to talk to everyone you possibly can about your business. You can find prospective customers in line at the grocery store, while waiting at a doctor’s office, or even while playing at the park with your children. Let others know that you are excited about it and believe in it. If the people around you hear the excitement in your voice, they may become excited about your business, too! You’ll be rewarded with more sales and a business that prospers from year to year.

Do you have what it takes to be an e-entrepreneur?

Copyright © Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy
Author of "Dotcomology - The Science of Making Money Online"

These days, it seems like everyone wants to work
from home and make money on the Internet. But
before you even turn on your computer, the first
question you have to ask yourself is whether
you’re cut out for this kind of work.

The fact is, building a home-based business isn’t
for everyone. Some people like the commute. They
really do enjoy having a boss who tells them what
to do, and they like the routine of working
nine-to-five for an ordinary salary that can
barely pay the mortgage. Personally, I think
they’re nuts.

More reasonably, there are people who are
concerned about the risk of starting up their own
business. They’re not sure it’s worth the
investment of time and money, and they’re scared
of the responsibility that comes with running
their own company. They wonder if there is
another way to escape the rat race.

I’m sure there is. You could win the lottery or
wait for your Aunt Sue to keel over and leave you
her condo. Or maybe you could sit down with a pen
and paper and draw the blueprint for "The Next
Big Thing". Anything can happen... Right?

For me, what happened was creating a successful,
self-running Internet marketing system. It didn’t
happen without effort. It didn’t happen without
at least some initial investment of both time and
money and, of course, it doesn’t happen now
without me making sure that the taxes are filed
and the paperwork is done. But it happened.

I’m my own boss. I work from home according to my
own schedule and I get to pocket all the cash my
business makes. If you’re prepared to give an
e-business the time, the work and the money it
needs to get started and get growing, it can
happen for you too.

The Future of Making Money Is At Home

By Lance Murkin

It’s simple, money is freedom in this country. Freedom to live the life you want to live. Debts and bills trap us into a job we may hate and a life where there is never enough time to do anything we really want to.

Take a look at how much money you make at your job per hour. Then subtract taxes. Now, deduct all your work expenses, just like a business. Gas, car maintenance, clothes, food or work supplies, special school or education. Now figure your hourly wage. Don’t forget driving time and day care. Not a pretty picture is it?

Think about how your life would change if you didn’t have to go to work anymore. What if you made all the money you needed from home. Figure up how much monthly expense would be saved. The whole list from above. Look at the numbers. To live and sustain a comfortable lifestyle for you. Add up the numbers and find your monthly living needs, your baseline monthly needs.

CUT COSTS AT WORK

If you must work away from home here’s some tips to cut down on the cost.

1. Work closer to home
2. Work 4/10 hour days
3. Wear out work clothes before buying new
4. Work overtime the same day as opposed to extra days

Obviously, the best case scenario would be to make enough money from home to cover our expenses. There are many, many people doing just that with a home-based business. We already know how much you’d save by working from home. Let’s look at a few more advantages to a home-based business.

The first advantage is money. Even if you still work full-time for someone else, imagine how much more quickly you could pay off all your debts if you bring in an extra $200-$600 a month. A part-time home-based business could easily make this much. And you could do something you’re already good at and enjoy. Auto repair, home repair, babysitting, yard work, making crafts and selling them, garage sales and almost any hobby you have can be turned into a money-making endeavor.

How big your business grows is up to you. If you provide a product or service with mass appeal and market it well, you could be on your way to full-time home employment. But even if that’s not your ambition, just making extra money from something you enjoy doing anyway can be very satisfying both emotionally and financially.

SOME HOME-BASED BUSINESS IDEAS

MLM – Multi-Level Marketing or MLM is one of the most popular home-based business plans going. Its strength lies in the duplication of the sales plan and the creation of monthly income from past sales. If you like the idea of MLM make sure you pick a product and company you really believe in.

MAIL-ORDER – This is a relatively easy and inexpensive business you can start from home. You can pick any field you know and like. Stick to your strengths. Writing a small book or manual on fly fishing and then maybe making some flies and selling them all through the mail is one idea. You can put together an entire product line based on your hobby or interest. A newsletter on bird watching with facts about different birds that you put out once a month. Give away free copies to entice them to subscribe. Follow that up with a book you write about bird watching. Only your imagination and your willingness to put some effort into it limit the fields.

Having a business of your own is one of the most gratifying feelings in the world. Especially when it’s a field you love. You will put hours and hours of thought and work into it and it will seem like fun. Trust me, I know. And when you reap the benefits (financial and emotional) of your work you will truly feel like you’ve found your place in this world.

There is a big difference between making a living and creating a life. So many of us get caught up in our day to day living and we don’t see the big picture. There is so much more to life and each one of us has a burning desire to do “something”. It’s there, it may be pushed way down inside but trust me it’s there.

I can write until my arm falls off and it won’t matter one bit to you until you do one thing. TAKE ACTION!! If you want more money, don’t go looking for a better job, find a way to capitalize on your strengths on the things you already love to do. That will bring you the satisfaction you’re looking for. Not tomorrow, not next month, the time is now. Put together a plan, think it through and go after it. If it fails, take what you learned, change your plan and go again. It takes just as much energy to live and not try to get what you want as it does to try to get everything you want. Life pays exactly what you ask of it. This journey may seem long but believe me, it will be a labor of love. So come on, get going.

GOOD LUCK!!

Have you ever wondered how the experienced Internet Marketers Generate loads of Traffic?

Copyright © 2005 Ryan Blake

Here's a two pronged approach to getting the traffic you need and find out exactly what your customers want.

Why not Combine Surveys and Polls With Pay per click.
I'm sure you already know that surveys are a great way to finding out what your target market wants but if combined with low cost, quick and easy to use Google Pay Per Click, surveys can also send lots of hungry customers to your site every month.

First of all you'll need to do some keyword research you'll need to find keywords and keyphrases that relate to your survey topic but also don't have too many Google Adword campaigns running.
You can do this very quickly with a tool like Jeff Alderson's Adword Analyzer, which will show you exactly how many Google campaigns are running for various keywords at any given time.

Second, sign up for an inexpensive survey service like Survey Monkey.
I won't recommend free survey services, for they tend to limit the number of participants, and well the whole point is to get as many people as possible to take your survey.
The next step is to design a survey that will appeal to your target market.

Next, come up with an incentive for people to take your survey,
Make it a download, so you can capture the prospect's email address.
And make it viral. Even a simple white paper can be viral.
You don't necessarily have to cram it with affiliate links just make sure your URL is visibly listed on every page now put up a simple web page that introduces people to the survey topic, offers the incentive, asks for an email address where you can send the download link and the survey results, and links to the survey.

Finally, use at least a dozen of the keywords you researched earlier to set up Google Adwords campaigns advertising your survey.
Make sure the ad uses your keyword, and that it mentions the incentive "Take this Cooking survey, get a free recipe E-book."
You don't have to be the #1 ad, you can even be on the second or third page.
The point is to capture a targeted prospect's contact information for a very small investment.
But there are also some additional serious benefits in addition to all the traffic you'll gain.
First, you'll collect valuable information on what your prospects are looking For.
Second, you'll have their permission to contact them with the survey results and the download link for the thank you gift.
And third, if you make that free gift a viral report, you'll eventually get more targeted traffic. Nice!
You can also do a variation of this with a simple one question poll.
Everything else is the same, except you'll want to come up with an intriguing question for the poll - something that will attract people's curiosity about the results and get them coming back for more and hopefully bring some friends along too.

Good luck with the future.
Regards.
Ryan Blak.

3 Super Simple Ways to Use Tell-A-Friend to Build Your List Fast

Copyright © 2005 Alicia Forest

Everyone prefers getting a recommendation for a product or a service. It means they don't have to do the research themselves, or find out whether or not it's for them through trial and error, shouldering all the risk. For example, if you're looking for a good dentist, you're more likely to ask someone you know and trust who they go to before you'll look one up online or in the yellow pages, right?

The same goes for your business. And you'll get HIGHER QUALITY clients and customers through referrals than any other method. So here are three super simple ways for you to help your current clients and customers tell others about you using the Tell-A-Friend strategy.

1. Simply add a sentence or two to the bottom of each issue of your ezine or any other freebie offering (pink spoon) you have. Something like:

We grow by recommendation! If you enjoyed this issue, we'd love it if you'd pass the word. Do so by forwarding this to a friend and inviting them to subscribe at the link (above/below).

You can embellish or simplify this according to your personality. See my own wording at the bottom of this ezine.

2. Put a Tell-A-Friend (TAF) feature on your sign-up thank you page.

A formal Tell-A-Friend software can help you make it super simple for people to tell a friend about you and your product or service. Some shopping cart systems and web hosts offer this feature, so be sure to check yours and start utilizing it now to help build your list.

If your current vendors don't offer this feature, I highly recommend TAFPro for this. This software has a one-time only fee (it's inexpensive), plus a very reasonable installation charge if you need help from the very customer service friendly Paul Galloway, the owner.

To see an example of this in action, visit my 'thank you' page for signing up for this ezine at:

http://www.clientabundance.com/thankyou.html

Just so you know, though, TAFPro doesn't work with websites that are hosted with GoDaddy.com. As an alternate for GoDaddy.com users, you can try Will Master Craig's CGI script at:

http://willmaster.com/master/recommendpro/index.shtml

If you don't already have technical support of your own, Will Master will install it for you. I haven't used his script myself, so you might want to ask around about it a bit first.

(3) Having installed a Tell-A-Friend module, use it to implement a contest with prizes.

Using any of the Tell-A-Friend module, you can easily take the next step and use the contest management feature in the software and create a contest page to send out to your existing subscriber list. To see an example of what I mean, visit:

http://www.clientabundance.com/contestexample.htm

(note: this contest is NOT running - at least not yet... :) It's just an example.)

Obviously, you'll want to tailor this page to your own needs and brand but it should give you an idea of how the Tell-A-Friend module can really encourage people to point others in your direction.

Referrals are usually more qualified prospects for your funnel, which is exactly what you want. Pick one of the techniques of using the Tell-A-Friend module and implement it in your business today.

Is Blogging and RSS ALL THAT? Yes, and a bag of chips!

Copyright © 2005 Jack Humphrey

In a very popular marketing forum recently I saw a post that blew me away. It was from someone asking if having a blog was really that big a deal in marketing their website!

Let's put it this way: simply putting a blog on your site does nothing for your traffic and links. Nada. Zilch. Zippo.

But what novice marketers fail to realize is a blog that is RSS enabled is a powerful traffic generation tool in the right hands.

Webmasters who understand what to do with a blog once they install one are reaping huge rewards in targeted traffic, incoming links, and faster search engine spidering.

There are search engines on the web that deal in nothing but blogs and RSS feeds. Meaning you cannot and will not get into those engines without a blog. And you are missing some seriously easy traffic.

My blog feed is all over the web, passively linking right back to my site, my posts, and my products. People use my content feeds (RSS) without my having to ask them to do so. Other sites need content that is rich in the keywords I regularly use on my blog, so they grab my feed and benefit from content they don't have to write themselves.

Where do they find my feed? Not usually on the blog itself, but in the feed engines! Take a look at some to see what I am talking about:

http://daypop.com
http://syndic8.com
http://technorati.com

Some only take your RSS feed URL while others just want your blog index page. Submitting to the ever growing list of blog and RSS directories is the easiest way to get spidered by the regular engines and get your links into directories all over the world.

All you have to do is provide good content on your site's main topic on a regular basis. Whole sites are run on blog software nowadays because the power of RSS promotion makes promoting them so much easier than static html pages and regular search engines.

Getting into the directories is one thing. Now you need to beef up your promotion by pinging regularly. Some blogs like Wordpress will allow you to update a list of sites to "ping" every time you post.

Pinging is simply sending a quick notice through to each site on the web that tracks and updates the information they have about your blog. New post - new ping. One click and tons of sites all have the most recent posts to your blog!

I use http://pingoat.com lately with great results. I like to make sure I am pinging every blog engine out there. They have a considerable list of places to ping and I do it every time I post to my blog.

In a matter of hours I have search engines crawling my site for new pages. And since I link from my blog to the rest of my site, the people who come to the blog can get to every other part of my site with ease.

All of this is merely scratching the surface of what blogs and RSS feeds can do for your marketing efforts. Everyone is going to RSS to syndicate their content. If you aren't yet, you'd better start ASAP. Because you are getting left in the dust by your competition for your keywords.

After actively blogging, pinging, and submitting your blog feed and main URL to the blog engines for a couple months you are going to see amazing amounts of back links. And in far shorter time than it would take you with any other marketing method other than aggressive syndication of articles.

So if someone asks you if having a blog is really all that, now you can tell them what it's all about. It's not the blog, it's what you DO with it that counts.

Video Bytes From The Web

Copyright © 2005 Jim Edwards

** Handheld Video **

Apple Computers recently announced the addition of a small video screen to its new iPod, the perennial favorite portable MP3 music player.

Apple's announcement comes as no surprise to many "expert" market watchers, but their stock did go up about 10% within days of the announcement.

Though certainly not the first handheld video player on the market, it carries the power of Apple's iTunes distribution channel behind it.

That means instead of getting a video player and then searching for content to play on it, users of the new video iPod can easily download and play their favorite videos, TV shows and more from the already hugely popular iTunes service.

For information marketers and small business owners, this means a whole new world just opened up for video content distribution.

Home video enthusiasts will also benefit because of the ease with which you can now share high quality video with friends and family.

The iPod plays not only Apple's proprietary QuickTime video format, but the newer Mpeg 4 video format which offers a much higher compression rate (and smaller video file sizes) than previous formats.

Though others partially paved the way, the age of handheld video finally arrived.

** Video Title Gem **

I recently found a piece of software that just plain rates "cool" when it comes to creating title screens and sequences for your digital videos.

With just a few mouse clicks it enables you to create title sequences that look like you spent hours in development time, instead of less than 10 minutes!

Log on to www.blufftitler.us for free examples of what the software can do, along with a free trial download.

You can also view a 20 minute tutorial on how to use the software (a video quick-start guide) at www.mediablitzed.com

Once you complete your title sequence, you can save it in a number of different formats which you then import into your digital video editor for inclusion in your finished movie.

** Google Video Maturing **

Several months ago I reported that Google launched a video service at http://Video.Google.com where they solicited users to upload their video content.

At the time, with the exception of local and national news content, very few actual videos showed up for playing online.

After a recent check of the service, the lack of videos certainly reversed itself.

Though not overflowing with video content, the Google Video service does carry a significant number of videos now and a search under your main keyword topic should produce at least a couple of related videos.

Since the search engine can't actually search the content of a video or audio file, the one drawback to the system stems from that fact that the search engine must decide what represents a "relevant" search from text that accompanies the video.

This text typically ranges from just a few words to an entire transcript of the video.

As such, a search for "employment tips" results in video from the Employment & Career Channel along with the Long Beach City Council hearings on development impacts on employment.

However, once Google gets the search aspect of video ironed out, watch for this service to explode in popularity.

Search Engine Database – Are You Indexed?

By Halstatt Pires Platinum Quality Author

The vernacular is "build a site and they will come." This cliché is only true if your site is indexed in the relevant search engine database.

Indexing

Search engines are essentially massive databases of domains and sub-domains for sites. When a person searches for something, the search engine instantaneously searches the domain names to come up with relevant listings. The method for doing this differs by engine and involves factors beyond the scope of this article. Instead, we are going to focus on figuring out if your site is in these important databases.

If you want to be included in the rankings on a search engine, your domain name has to be in the search engine database. Put another way, you have to buy a ticket if you want to win the lotto. Your chances of getting free traffic from rankings are far better if you have as many urls from your site included in the database as possible. Having just your home page indexed isn’t going to cut it.

If your site has 500 total pages, you ideally want 500 urls included in the search engine index. While this is admittedly a simplification of the situation, the more pages included, the better chance you have of getting high rankings under different keywords. The more high rankings you produce, the more free traffic you can get and the easier it will be to survive the loss of one ranking.

To check how many pages of your site are indexed in a particular search engine, simply do a search on the particular engine for "site:yourdomainname.com". Pay particular attention to Yahoo, as it often will fail to pick up many of your pages. The result of this search will tell you every page the engine has found on your site and included in its database.

If you discover only a few pages have been indexed by the search engine, you need to take a look at your site. A common problem for sites using databases concerns dynamic urls. Many programmers will write session ids and so on into the urls. The search engines have massive problems reading these urls and will often fail to include them in their databases. You have this problem if the internal pages of your site have tails like:

yourdomainname/id43/s-876783/product=46830

If you have this problem, the best solution is to create static pages without the dynamic urls issues. The session ids and so on should be moved into the code of the page and removed from the url. You will probably need a programmer to make the fix.

If you do not have this problem, you need to figure out how to get your site into the indexes. There are plenty of articles telling you how. The first step, however, is just figuring out if the search engines have found you.

How to Make Money Marketing Affiliate Products

By Janice Sharman

Everybody dreams of being rich! Some of us don't just want to be rich... We want to be rich beyond our wildest dreams! We want to be able to live like the rich and famous, and we want our riches to continue for the rest of our natural lives.

Anyone who is truly wealthy will tell you that you never get rich working for someone else. To make the kind of money you need to live a wealthy lifestyle you have to be in command of your own destiny, or marry well. Marrying well is okay I suppose, but it carries consequences. Going into business for yourself also carries some risks, but the risks are usually under your control. You’re at the helm and you sink or swim on your own performance.

The current economic climate around the world does nothing to make you confident of ever finding a job that will provide an adequate nest egg to take you through your golden years. But the good news is that there are many virtually untapped opportunities online with good business prospects. It is easy to earn money online if you know what you are doing. The main hurdle of course, is first knowing where to start, then learning how to you can earn and earn BIG online. Affiliate marketing is still one of the easiest ways to start earning online. It is quick to start and you can start an online home business for under $100.

Even with this easy way to earn online some of us create unnecessary hurdles for ourselves. I remember joining the Internet Marketing Company and trying to market Cory Rudl's products without trying any of them myself. My success was marginal. I balked at paying the sum of money necessary to purchase the product for myself. (Sometimes we can be very dense). When I did get around to purchasing his "Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet" course and implementing his ideas, my business began to take off. It was the some of the best money I have ever spent. You see, it finally dawned on me that the tiny financial outlay that I had made was not an “expense”, but an “investment”! In other words, what I had spent was surpassed by what I received in return. The best way to learn something is to find someone who has done what you desire to do and follow his or her example. It Works!

Selling affiliate products or services is much more effective if you have used the product or service yourself. How can you tell someone how good a particular dish on a restaurant menu is if you've never tried it? Enthusiasm comes from having tried a product or service and found it to be superb! The affiliates who become obscenely wealthy are those who know their products and market them with proud enthusiasm.

First find a product category that you can identify with, then choose the product you want to market. Be sure to utilize the product yourself, use it and then sell it with confidence and enthusiasm...The wealth will follow.

How To Get A Stampede of Hits to Your Websites

Are you an Internet marketers who spends hours clicking on the traffic exchange programs? What if I could show you a way to automate the whole clicking process and you still get the credits you need?

It is a simple but effective strategy that is guaranteed to blow you away? Interested? I bet you are! I will show you how I use the same system I use to generate hits and affiliates to my SFI business. If you are not yet a member of SFI you can join here.

The Basic System:

• Open an account with a free traffic exchange that allows you to point your URL's to a URL rotator and gives you credit for showing your traffic link. HitPulse is one of them, but there are others...

• Next, you open an account with a free traffic exchange service and create a URL rotator landing page. Add your chosen SFI gateways to this rotator. ProfitRally is great for this.

• Open an account with an auto surf program. These programs work like the free traffic exchange programs, but they are automatic, you don’t have to click to get credits.

• Point your auto surf URL to HitPulse and point your HitPulse URL to ProfitRally.

Start your auto surf program and let it run as long as possible. I run mine all day. This gives me enough hits on HitPulse that I can convert into power-points every day. These credits fuel HitPulse which in turn displays your ProfitRally URL rotator and ultimately displays your SFI gateways to prospects surfing the traffic exchanges.

Your SFI gateways will be displayed to the world. You won’t attract veteran surfers to your SFI gateways, but there are literally thousands of new surfers joining these free exchange servers every single day and to them your SFI gateways are brand new.

I receive anywhere between 500 and 3000 hits per week with this system depending on how I work it. All this just auto-surfing, not clicking for credits.

If you follow the 11 steps below, the traffic will flow your to your websites:

1. Create an account with ProfitRally. (Click here to sign up)

2. Setup the URL rotator for your SFI Gateways.

3. Create an account with HitPulse. (Click here to sign up)

4. Add your ProfitRally rotator URL to the HitPulse system.

5. Create an account with AutoHits.dk. (Click here to sign up)

6. Add the HitPulse URL to the AutoHits.dk system.

7. Start surfing AutoHits.dk and let it run for a while. You want to accumulate as many hits as possible before you create a campaign.

8. Login to HitPulse and convert your hits to PowerPoints (You need at least 100 hits to convert to credits).

9. Create a campaign in HitPulse and point your campaign to your ProfitRally URL rotator. Make sure that the campaign is auto renewed.

10. Run your AutoHits.dk as long and as often as possible.

11. Every 2-3 days you login to HitPulse and convert the powerpoints to credits. PowerPoints.

That’s it! This is a system that is fully automated and with almost nothing to do for you. Beautiful isn't it? 500 – 3000 hits to your SFI gateways each week - and targeted hits too. Individuals using in free traffic exchanges are opportunity seekers, you'll just be helping them to find home business opportunities.
You can run as many auto surf programs, as you want. Just make sure that you use an traffic exchange that gives you credit for displaying their start page. This is what keeps the system running. You can use any auto surf traffic exchange and earn credits.

Using this technique you can create a credit surfing empire without lifting a finger.

This Works! If I hadn't been surfing for credits I would never have started my online business. I signed up with SFI during a surfing session. Today I’m happy I did and I know you will be too.

I'm positive this will be a huge help in getting you the website traffic you desire.

To your success

He Dared To Be Different!

Almost all of us have seen this strange looking website with the weird looking pixel adverts while surfing the web. Now you can read the fascinating story behind it.

What Does It Take To Be Different?
By Barbara White Platinum Quality Author

There is a secondary school not far from our home, and I often see the students either walking to school or waiting at the bus stop. Over 1500 students attend this school, and yet when I see them there is a similarity that identifies them as belonging to that school. After some thought I realized that it is their appearance that is similar. Although there is no school uniform, it is their choice of clothes that almost creates a uniform in itself. The colours of choice tend to be limited to three colours none of which stand out or appear distinct. Almost all students carry a backpack. It is rare to see a student who stands out by wearing brighter colours or a different style of clothes.

This is a well known example of the power of peer pressure, such an influential force in the lives of children growing up. Ironically the teen age years are the period of time when children are trying to find out who they are, how their identity is unique from family members and role models of their previous childhood years. The ridicule and even persecution of fellow students at school causes all but the secure and bold of heart to conform or be ostracized at school.

There are many forms of conformity out in the big wide world; subtle expectations and pressures that create environments and communities which conform to ‘acceptable patterns of appearance and behaviour.

However success and notoriety come to those who stand out from the rest by their creativity, uniqueness and ability to stand out from the crowd.

A recent example of this is twenty one year old Alex Twe from England. In August this year Alex was about to start university. Being only too aware of the fact that many students end up finishing their education with huge debts to repay, he decided to try and generate sufficient funds to cover his expenses whilst studying using the power of the Internet. He created ‘The Million Dollar Home Page’. The basic concept was that website owners could buy advertising space on the home page of the site at a cost of $1 per pixel. The smallest advertising block you can purchase is 10x10 pixels, hence a cost of $100. There are a million pixels available for purchase, thus if Alex succeeds in selling them all, he will have raised a cool $1million!

On the face of it, this is a crazy idea - why would anyone want to pay to put a tiny graphic on a page of thousands of other tiny graphics on the off-chance that someone might click on it? I’m sure if he had taken advice from Internet experts he would have been strongly advised not to bother even to attempt such a ludicrous notion as would not have a hope of succeeding.

Alex launched the site at the end of August and right away started to try and generate press interest. This approach worked superbly and he has had International press coverage over the past couple of months which has helped to spread the word about his site in the viral manner that is only possible via the Internet. Result? After a very short time Alex had sold over half a million pixels - that means he has generated over $500,000 in income in just 2 months! At this rate he will achieve his target of selling a million pixels by the end of the year and even if he doesn't sell another pixel, he has still done superbly well. To read the blog of Alex’s adventure and see the site visit his website http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com This week he is visiting the U.S.A. on a media tour. Within weeks of this site being launched and seeing success, there were over 400 copycats trying to make a quick fortune by copying a unique idea.

What does it take to be different, to stand out from the crowd, become influential and experience success? What qualities make innovative leaders rather than followers?

Here are some of my thoughts;

Courage to follow your heart and intuition

Security and self confidence to stand by what you believe

Not concerned to gain the approval of others

Creativity

Willingness to be the first and take a risk

Determination to follow through on your ideas

What do you think?

Internet Marketing Strategy for 2006

As email marketing becomes less effective due to unscrupulous spammers, Internet Marketers are having to explore other methods of getting their messages out. Here is an article showing that there are still inexpensive yet effective way to get your message across and get customers flocking to your site.

Online Press Releases Tipped As Internet Marketing Strategy for 2006

By Sally Falkow

With consumers taking charge of what they read and when they read it, online news has attracted the interest of marketers. The new report Search Marketing Benchmark Guide from Marketing Sherpa tips optimized online press releases and the combination of PR and SEO as one of the top three Internet marketing strategy trends in 2006.

According to this report search optimization spending increased in 2005, but it is still a fraction of the money being spend on search advertising and pay per click.

“The one, undeniable truth of search marketing is that across all major engines organic results (those that show up in natural "free" listings) are better noticed, read, and clicked on than the paid listings,” says the report.

77% of surfers get their news online today. Yahoo News has the largest online news audience and an online optimized press release in Yahoo News and Google News can give a quick boost your search engine marketing. You’ll be on page one in the news search for your keywords within twenty-four hours.

Eye track studies show that the pay per click and sponsored ads (e.g. down the right side of a Google search) get less than 50 percent of the searchers' attention and on average get only 30 percent of the clicks.

Makes sense - people buy a newspaper to read the news, not the ads. You don't turn on the TV to watch the ads.

The best Internet marketing strategy would be to have a strong presence in the news section of the search engines. "PR plants the seed. Advertising harvests the crop," wrote Jack Trout and Al Ries, authors of best selling books on positioning.

Publicity in the form of news articles molds public opinion so that your target audiences are more susceptible to advertising or other promotions. The purpose of public relations is to gain awareness and acceptance of your brand -then advertising can be undertaken to forward the brand message.

Every company has a good story to tell. If it is well-written and optimized for the news search engines, an online press release will get more exposure and help improve the visibility of your web site

It seems that there is something magical about news coverage - the public accept it but pass ads right on by. With more and more people getting their news on the Internet, it's vital to also use online optimized press releases that include "key words" (the words that your prospects are using to find you or your competitors) links back to your site and a measurement system that can track the results not only on the press release, but also the clicks to your site and the visitor actions on your site.

One caveat: Be sure to find someone who really understands the combination of PR and SEO. Some so-called ‘experts’ in press release optimization may not be as skilled at optimizing and tracking results as others. Check their references and results carefully.

Taking care of business and the brood, too

Flower Mound: Enterprising moms find it can pay to stay home

By LYNDA STRINGER / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News

Heather Sharr of Flower Mound never thought she'd be able to afford to quit her job and stay home with her two children.

But she did. No
t only is she living her dream and helping to pay the bills after starting her own Web design business, she is also helping other moms who want to do the same through her networking and support group, Work It Mommy.

It wasn't an easy decision, she said, but she followed her convictions.

"I prayed about it, and God made it possible," Ms. Sharr said. "That's the only thing that got me through."

With a degree in mass communications, a background in advertising and a knack for working with computers, she started Sharr Consulting in April. She designs Web sites for moms who work from home and small businesses.

"I love it that she's at home with the kids," said her husband, Paul Sharr, a teacher and assistant varsity football coach at Flower Mound High School. He had been concerned about making ends meet if she quit working full time.

"I wish more people could do it. They could, but they're afraid they won't be able to make it."

As her home business and her hopes to see more moms stay home with kids both grew, Ms. Sharr decided to create the Work It Mommy network in June. Members pay an annual fee to participate in the monthly meetings and be listed on the group's Web site and in a planned newsletter.

While their kids play together close by, members share ideas and talk about their products or services. Many stay after the meetings to chat and get to know one another. "The things these women are doing are amazing. Someone will say, 'I have a friend that would love that,' and it gets them business," Ms. Sharr said.

Three years ago, homemaker and Work It Mommy member Julie Lane started Creativity Lane, selling the embroidered gifts she creates. The Flower Mound resident and former high school marketing and management teacher met Ms. Sharr at a craft show and hired her to create the Web site for her business. "The support is very important," said Ms. Lane, who describes staying home as both lonely and fulfilling. While the decision to start a business can be overwhelming, Ms. Lane said, "You won't know until you try it. You have to discover your passion and follow your dream.

"
With the networking group, the women go through the ups and downs together. They make business contacts and friendships.

"They realize there are other women out there just like them, and when they're asking, 'Why am I doing this again?' this encourages them that their business is going to thrive," Ms. Sharr said.

Improving Your Google Ranking -- Some Tips for Beginners

By Kirk Kinbote

Once upon a time, as an absolute beginner to the web game, I thought that building my own site would be the really hard part. I fondly believed that once my site was finished, and out there, discriminating surfers would come to it in droves.

How wrong I was. For several months after launching it I watched my magnificent site lie there like a dead dog, attracting weekly traffic totals that could -- I'm not exaggerating -- be counted on one hand.

It wasn't hard to see what the problem was. My Google ranking was absurdly low. No matter what search terms I pumped into it, Google simply refused to display my site on the first page of results. And let's face it, how many surfers bother looking beyond the top ten? It was time to face some hard facts. If I couldn't locate my site through a Google search, how could I expect Joe Surfer to stumble across it?

Resolving to do something about it, I hit the web in search of answers. Vaguely aware that a site's Google ranking depends on how many other websites link to it, and on how good the rankings of those sites are, I looked into the option of link swapping. But everything I read about it discouraged me. I had no desire to e-mail complete strangers proposing a link swap. Besides, what I really needed was to get my link on a big site -- a site that attracted some really major traffic. And why would such a site want to swap with me, with my abysmal ranking? What would be in it for them? Nor did I really want to invest in one of those software programs that do the job for you. Indeed some of the more out-there link-swapping programs seemed to emit -- how can I put this? -- a distinct odor of Spam.

It's no wonder that people who know about these things are already saying that link swapping is effectively dead as a means of site promotion.

And then I stumbled across the answer that has turned my site around. The E-zine article. Here's how it works. You sign up with an E-zine site, like Ezinearticles.com. It takes about two minutes; it's totally obligation-free; and it costs you nothing. Then you write an article or articles on any subject of your choosing, like the article I'm writing right now. You submit it to them, and provided it meets their terms and conditions they publish it on their site. They don't pay you, of course -- but what they do do is let you put your own web address down at the bottom of your article.

It's a sweet solution, because it boosts your web traffic on several different fronts. For one, the E-zine sites tend to be big, established, high-traffic sites, so getting your URL on one of them will significantly improve your site's ranking in any general Google search. Then there's the more direct route: as long as your article addresses a reasonably oft-Googled topic, lots of people are going to find it and read it, and if it's any good a fair few of them are going to click on your URL and check out your site. There's also the strong chance that your article, if it's any good, will be republished on other E-zine sites, which means that you'll reap the same benefits all over again.

Even if you can't write articles, or don't want to, there are people out there who'll ghost-write your stuff for you, at a price.

Don't take my word for it: go to an E-zine site, sniff around, and you might just find it's the solution to all your web woes.

Is Success Supposed To Happen For You?

By Gary Baker

One common thread that runs through all of you who are just starting out with a home business is "Why can't I seem to make anything happen?"

You put in extra hours busting your butt to get your business up and running so why are you NOT making any money yet?

You have done all the right steps...Picked a great cutting edge product, put up a very nice website with a strong sales letter, placed some ads, etc...

But nothing seems to be going on.

You start to get frustrated and then you second guess your product, website, advertising, and just about everything else.

You read story after story about how this person made thousands of dollars in a month and by golly they are just like you, so why can't you seem to do the same.

Then it happens...You tell yourself that maybe you are just NOT cut out for home business success.

Yep, you wake up one day and tell yourself it just is not supposed happen for you. OH PLEASE!! You know what I say about that...

"Horse Hockie!!" You can and will succeed. You just need to keep going and DO NOT QUIT!

One of the main reasons others have succeeded is they kept at it. Just when things seemed to go wrong, these successful individuals did one very important move that separates them from the failures...they did not did not give up.

You will need to do the same. Treat each new day as if it were the very first day of your business.
